
Gelsemium sempervirens - Yellow Jessamine, Carolina Yellow Jasmine
This evergreen vine is as beautiful as it is easy to grow. Glossy rich green leaves are about 2"-4" long by 1/2" wide and grow in opposite pairs along wiry stems. The vine will grow 10'-20' up tree trunks and along fences or other support. It also makes and excellent house plant or bonsai in a sunny window
Location: Native to the southeastern United States. Widely grown as an ornamental in mild climate areas. Related species are found in China.Culture
Light: Sun, part shade.
Moisture: Needs adequate moisture.
Hardiness: USDA Zones 7-9, tolerates frost, killed by persistent freeze. The plant can also be grown as a patio plant, outside in the summer and indoors during the winter. Or as a house plant in a sunny, yet cool window.
Propagation: Seed, layers and softwood cuttings.
Usage: Use to quickly cover arbors, tree trunks, trellises, etc. This plant will stay in scale and can be used on decks and porches, near patios and entry ways. Also good in containers and as ground cover along steep banks.
Features: A nice fast growing evergreen vine with fragrant flowers that appear in late winter or early spring. In north Florida, blooming Carolina jasmine is one of our first signs of spring.
